PGE Basic Service vs Time of Day
Basic Service keeps one base energy rate across the day. Time of Day assigns different prices to weekday periods. The rest of the tariff still matters.
01 / The rate structure
The difference that matters
PGE’s current Time of Day is a different program from its archived Time of Use. Use the current Schedule 7 rules and the applicable adjustments; an old three-period table can describe the wrong product.
At July 8, 2026 base rates, Time of Day starts with $0.30263/kWh on-peak, $0.11143 mid-peak and $0.05514 off-peak, before the other applicable schedules. A comparison using just those three numbers omits significant charges and credits.

Single-family service, BPA eligible, no separate local tax or optional program, and Time of Day protection not applicable. All service and enrollment conditions are assumed confirmed.

The example’s $18.08 difference is a result of this chosen profile and charge coverage. A different hour mix, housing type, local tax or program credit can change the answer. The public purpose charge excludes its tariff-specified components rather than multiplying an arbitrary whole-bill subtotal.

Check eligibility before considering a switch
PGE’s tariff includes enrollment requirements and commitment rules. Non-network meter timing and first-year protection can affect the result. Confirm the current terms and your account’s status with PGE.
A complete comparison requires the same confirmed service conditions and periods for both plans. Unknown eligibility remains a conditional scenario; unknown material charges remove the total-cost ranking.

Use your own pattern
Import measured interval energy to see which periods account for the difference. Monthly totals alone cannot tell us your personal time-of-day cost. The manual shift tool is a separate what-if and shows exactly which intervals change.
